Rooted in Mauritius’ sugar industry, agriculture has been central to SIT’s heritage since its establishment. Through SIT Land Holdings Ltd, the Group has built experience in sugarcane cultivation, plantation management, agricultural land development and diversification initiatives.
Today, SIT’s land bank spans approximately 857 hectares, including around 300 hectares dedicated to sugarcane cultivation. To revitalise its plantations, SITLH has initiated a derocking and replanting programme, with the ambition of expanding sugarcane cultivation to 500 hectares by 2028 and increasing production to over 35,000 tonnes of sugarcane.
Over the years, SITLH has also developed 12 agricultural morcellements across Mauritius, comprising more than 3,060 agricultural plots, helping make agricultural land accessible to cultivators. Through its ongoing plantation renewal, agricultural diversification and food security initiatives, SIT continues to support the development of Mauritius’ agricultural sector.
